Ya Hsuan Hsiao
Statement
Ya-Hsuan, Hsiao often use different media to explore folklore, religion, belief and East Asia culture, such as text/writing, installation, still and moving image, performance, etc. to present the way how people view their own or other people’s religion, and how they imagine the afterlife. She treats folklore and local beliefs as a medium between reality and fiction, and creates her own narrative system and world-building by combing these historical stories. Currently, she is trying to integrate Eastern folklore with Western vocabulary, and to rethink the local legends of her hometown, Taiwan, with the facets of different cultures.
