Shira Bar

Statement
Shira Bar is an artist who works in photography, moving image, text, and sound. Bar’s motivation for her works comes from being or looking for a place that gives her a feeling of comfort and security. While there, she asks questions about intimacy, personal experiences, and how a story of oneself is constructed. The place is either a physical one, such as an apartment or a public park, or a metaphorical one, such as social media or a file.

Bar attempts to create another ‘place’ with her practice, combining images (either still or moving) and other means of language for these questions to float and evolve. She sees her works as a form of potential dialogue with each person who sees them. She does not aim to propose one-sided answers but rather aims to stay in the ‘in-between’ space, seeing it as continuous questions that change throughout time.
